First thing to do is to try it again and make sure the settings are saved in the database. Then log out of the database. Log out of WordPress and clear the cookies and the cache on your computer. Then try it. If it still doesn't work go to your user profile in the admin section of WordPress and verify what it says under username. If it still say "admin" then for some reasons the changes didn't save in the database. If it says the name you put in but you are still able to log in using admin then there is a hiccup somewhere in your WordPress installation.
